On February 15, KALOS Mentor-Creator Christopher Halls led an interactive workshop “Your Artist Story — Crafting An Artist Biography That Gets You Hired” which was designed to tackle one of the most underestimated tools in a musician’s career: the artist biography.
Many musicians spend years refining their technique — but hesitate when asked to articulate who they are and what makes them distinctive. This session was created to change that.
Three Essential Formats Every Musician Needs
During the workshop, participants learned how to structure their professional identity into three clear formats:
Short Bio (80–120 words) — for programs and social media
Full Biography (4–5 paragraphs) — for websites and press
Professional CV — for competitions, festivals, and institutions
Chris emphasized clarity, confidence, and precision. Musicians were encouraged not to minimise their achievements, but to present them with authority and authenticity.
Finding the Right Words
A key focus of the workshop was language.
How do you describe your tone without sounding generic? How do you communicate versatility without clichés?
Through live exercises and real-time feedback, participants refined how they described:
Their artistic voice and performance style
Influential teachers and masterclasses
Major collaborations and achievements
Personal interests that reveal individuality beyond music
Because today’s audiences connect not only with excellence — but with personality.
Beyond the Traditional Narrative
The discussion also explored how musicians can position themselves beyond stereotypes. Versatility, curiosity, and cross-genre awareness were highlighted as strengths in a changing artistic landscape.
Professional photos and portfolio presentations were also addressed as essential elements in building a complete and credible artist profile.
What’s Next
Participants will continue refining their biographies in the coming weeks, with further feedback to be provided.
At KALOS, we believe the next era of classical music will be led by musicians who not only perform brilliantly — but articulate their artistic voice with clarity and confidence.
And that journey begins with owning your story.
