Vienna-born baritone Georg Lehner offers individual coaching and masterclasses for young aspiring musicians on KALOS, before getting his advice, what about getting to know more about him?
After training and working as an oboist, the Vienna-born baritone completed a further degree (opera, lied, oratorio) at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna under KS Hilde Rössel-Majdan and KS Walter Berry. Since then, engagements as an opera, operetta, lieder and oratorio singer have taken the singer to Japan (including Tokyo National Opera), the USA, South America and throughout Europe, as well as to the Bregenz Festival and the Vienna Volksoper and State Opera. In 2026, his long-standing engagements at the Tino Pattiera Opera Festival in Dubrovnik will continue. The Lied is one of Georg Lehner's artistic focuses, including ‘Die schöne Müllerin’ with recitation by Peter Matic at MuTh, Vienna, as well as ‘Winterreise’ in New York and Boston, among others. Since the beginning of his singing career, oratorios, cantatas and masses have also been of particular interest to him. Georg Lehner has already performed with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra as an oboist, and as a singer, it is a particular pleasure for him to interpret cantatas by J. S. Bach with the Vienna Symphony´s renowned baroque ensemble.
In addition to his artistic activities, Georg Lehner teaches voice training for choirs and has given masterclasses in Tokyo, at the Mannes School of Music, NYC and the New England Conservatory in Boston. Since 2015, he is leading an international class for solo singing at the Richard Wagner Conservatory in Vienna. Georg Lehner's individually motivating approach in his methodological work and his sensitivity to reading voices and personalities support the development of each student's own voice and the path to self-discovery. The resulting authentic interpretation based on a sound breathing technique is an important goal of his teaching. For him as a teacher and artist, openness is part of his profession: ‘My spectrum as a baritone is broad, and I am always fascinated to delve into new areas of the repertoire. I also encourage this interest in trying things out in my students.
