Creative ideas are exciting — but turning them into finished projects requires more than inspiration.
In our August Expert Insight Webinar, “Make It Happen: Project Management for Creative Talents,” KALOS explored how creative professionals can bring greater clarity and structure to their projects without losing the flexibility that creative work requires.
The session introduced a practical five-part framework built around five essential questions:
What are we making?
Define the project scope and the final deliverables.
Why does it matter?
Clarify the purpose behind the project, whether that is artistic development, portfolio building, audience impact, community engagement, income generation, or long-term visibility.
Who is involved?
Identify responsibilities, reviewers, approvers, and other stakeholders.
What are the stages?
Break the project into manageable phases, from concept and preparation through creation, promotion, delivery, and follow-up.
What needs to happen by when?
Turn larger outcomes into concrete tasks, deadlines, dependencies, and milestones.
The webinar also highlighted an often-overlooked part of project management: communication. Keeping files, feedback, updates, review dates, and decision-making clear and centralised can prevent many of the problems that cause creative projects to slow down.
Participants were then invited to apply the framework to one of their own current projects—whether a performance, release, workshop, collaboration, recording, portfolio update, or community initiative.
The takeaway was simple:
Good project management does not limit creativity. It gives creativity a better chance to become reality.
