Our March KALOS Expert Insight Webinar brought together musicians from different backgrounds to reflect on an essential but often overlooked topic: understanding one’s professional value.
In the session, KALOS Founder & CEO Irene Au introduced the strategic tool SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats, and Trends) and demonstrated how musicians can use it to gain a clearer view of their career position.
While musicians often invest years developing their craft, many rarely pause to assess their competitive advantages, the environments that suit them best, or the external factors that may shape their opportunities. SWOT analysis provides a structured way to examine both internal strengths and limitations as well as external opportunities and challenges.
Participants reflected on questions such as:
What are my real strengths beyond technical ability?
What unique combinations of skills or experiences do I bring?
What opportunities exist in the current musical landscape?
What external trends might influence my future path?
The discussion that followed was honest, thoughtful, and inspiring. Participants shared personal reflections on their career journeys and explored how strategic self-assessment can help them make more intentional decisions. The conversation also touched on practical challenges musicians face, including procrastination, time management, and finding a healthy balance between work and rest.
The conversation highlighted an important message: knowing your worth is the first step toward shaping a sustainable and meaningful career.
