Chan Kai Pong, Aki (BSSc, RSW, HK, PTG, USA) is a community music producer; Founder of Free Association Ltd. and KapaBar; Co-founder of Cantonese Reading Playground CIC; Member of the Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong; and Founder of Band Union.
In recent years, Aki has been creating and producing music through community music practices with and for diverse communities, including single mothers, survivors of domestic violence, children and families, older adults, and ethnic minorities. He shared his experience in this area at the Asia-Pacific Community Music Conference 2020.
He also served as the producer of the album Between Salt and Fresh Water, using recorded music to preserve and pass on the tradition of saltwater songs (鹹水歌). In addition, he has participated in numerous theatre productions, community arts projects, and record productions, taking on a wide range of roles including director, scriptwriter, actor, host, storyteller, puppeteer, composer, musician, arranger, and producer.
In 2023, Cantonese Reading Playground CIC was established with the aim of promoting and passing on the Cantonese language in the UK through creative arts. As part of this work, we have created a number of Cantonese children’s songs. In 2025, with funding from Arts Council England, we brought the Cantonese Children’s Festival to three locations across the UK, featuring a touring Cantonese children’s puppet theatre production. Aki is currently preparing to establish a music label, Unforgotten Records, with the related work scheduled to officially launch in October 2026.
