Helping musicians craft their artist story, step by step
Musicians spend years refining their craft — developing technique, interpretation, and artistic identity through performance.
Yet when it comes to writing about their own work, many musicians find it surprisingly difficult.
What should you include in your biography? How do you communicate your artistic voice clearly? And how can you present your achievements in a way that feels both professional and authentic?
A strong biography is often the first introduction presenters, festivals, collaborators, and audiences have to an artist. Whether it appears on a concert programme, a website, or a competition application, it plays an important role in shaping how a musician is perceived.
Following the encouraging response to our recent Artist Biography Workshop, KALOS is pleased to introduce the KALOS Professional Profile Services — a new series designed to support musicians in presenting themselves with clarity and confidence.
All services in this series are led by our Mentor-Creator and music reviewer Christopher Halls, who has formerly written for Vienna’s Wiener Zeitung and currently contributes to the South China Morning Post in Hong Kong and the international classical music platform Bachtrack. Drawing on his experience reviewing performances and working closely with musicians, Chris helps artists shape biographies that communicate both their artistic identity and professional achievements clearly.
Rather than treating biography writing as a one-off task, the services are designed as a simple step-by-step pathway.
Step 1 — Shape Your Artist Story
Biography Writing Workshop / 1-to-1 Consultation
The process begins with developing a clear narrative.
Through a small-group workshop or a personalised consultation, Chris works with musicians to identify their artistic identity, highlight key achievements, and shape a biography that communicates effectively with presenters, festivals, and audiences.
Step 2 — Refine Your Biography
Short Bio Editing / Full Bio Editing
Once a draft biography is in place, professional editing helps refine the text for clarity, structure, and tone.
Chris carefully reviews the biography, polishing the language while preserving the musician’s authentic voice. Musicians can refine either a short biography for concert programmes and brochures, or a full biography for websites, press materials, and professional applications.
Step 3 — Capture Your Artistic Voice
Performance Quote
As an additional step, musicians may request a Performance Quote.
After attending a performance or reviewing a high-quality recording, Chris crafts a concise professional quote capturing the musician’s artistic voice and musical personality. These quotes can be valuable additions to concert promotion, websites, and press materials.
To encourage musicians to develop their professional profiles step by step, special offers are available for those who combine services within the series.
The KALOS Professional Profile Services are now available to book individually, allowing musicians to choose the level of support that best suits their needs.
We look forward to supporting more artists as they shape their professional profiles and share their musical stories with the wider musical community.
