Vocal Vibes Live: Celebrating Young Musicians Beyond the Stage

Vocal Vibes Live brought together a group of passionate young musicians for an afternoon that was far more than a concert. It became a celebration of creativity, collaboration, and artistic identity — a space where young creators were encouraged not only to perform, but to shape and present programmes of their own.

Throughout the afternoon, audiences experienced a wide range of performances that reflected the individuality and imagination of each musician. From original compositions and world premieres to unexpected instrumental collaborations and creative storytelling elements, the showcase highlighted the courage of young musicians stepping beyond traditional performance expectations.

One of the highlights was The Hearts and Souls, a world premiere by young composer Harold Chan Shing Hei. Inspired by Heart and Soul, the work explored the relationship between four musical voices through themes of competition, conflict, and connection. For the Quartet performing the piece (Tommy Ho, Jason Poon, Serena Lee and Kyle Hsieh), the experience became much more than learning notes on a score. Through rehearsals, discussions, and exchanges of ideas about stage presentation and interpretation, the musicians became active participants in the creative process itself — an experience very different from performing standard classical repertoire.

Another memorable collaboration featured flutist Yaudia Chueng alongside Sam Lee on tuba, with Terrie Lam as piano accompanist. Bringing together piccolo and tuba — instruments sitting at opposite ends of the orchestral range — the performance explored how contrasting voices can create unexpected musical beauty. What began as curiosity about an unusual pairing became a thoughtful exploration of listening, difference, and artistic connection.

What made the showcase especially meaningful was seeing young musicians take ownership of their artistic voice. Beyond technical performance, they demonstrated curiosity, experimentation, communication, and the willingness to share their ideas with audiences.

As part of the collaboration, KALOS also launched Between the Notes, a creator storytelling Reel series sharing the journeys, reflections, and creative processes behind the performances. Through rehearsal moments, interviews, and behind-the-scenes conversations, the series offers audiences a glimpse into the thoughts and experiences that exist beyond the stage. Two reels have been released and there would be more to come.

At KALOS, we believe young musicians grow not only through lessons and practice rooms, but through real-world opportunities to create, collaborate, perform, and engage with different audiences. Opportunities like the Vocal Vibes Live x KALOS Showcase allow creators to experience what it means to shape performances of their own while building confidence, artistic identity, and meaningful connections through music.
